Rogers is among the estimated 30 to 50 million Americans who are lactose intolerant, according to the National Dairy Council. Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and milk-derived dairy products. Lactose intolerant individuals have insufficient levels of the lactase enzyme that changes lactose into glucose and galactose in their digestive system. Additionally, a survey of 400 Perry’s consumers revealed that 19% of respondents are either lactose intolerant or have a family member who is. 54% of these respondents are interested in Lactose-Free products.
