Perry’s Ice Cream Develops Award Winning Flavors

Red Velvet Ice Cream and Sour Buddie Bars Honored at 2011 International Dairy Foods Technology Conference

Akron, N.Y.- A little sweet n’ sour and a traditional southern dessert are winners for Perry’s Ice Cream!  The fourth-generation, family-owned business scooped up two flavor innovation awards on March 3 from the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) at its annual ice cream technology conference in St. Petersburg, F.L.

Perry’s was named 2011′s Most Innovative Ice Cream Flavor for its Red Velvet ice cream and Most Innovative Novelty, for its Sour Buddie Bars.

“It is an honor to be selected for the IDFA awards by our respected peers in the dairy industry.  Red Velvet is one of the hottest trends in food right now and our Sour Buddie Bars were developed with a fun, younger consumer in mind,” said Robin Waite, research and quality team leader, perry’s ice cream.

The IDFA awards honor the top ice cream innovations in the dairy industry.  This year’s competition was sponsored by Dairy Foods Magazine and featured contestants from around the country.  A panel of 110 judges from across the dairy industry selected the winners.

Perry’s Red Velvet ice cream is a Red Velvet cake base with cream cheese flavored swirls. The flavor is now available at ice cream stands in New York State and Western Pennsylvania.  Two flavors of Sour Buddie Bars will be available this spring at retail locations in sour green apple or sour blue raspberry sherbet with a vanilla ice cream center.
