Buffalo, N.Y. – November 1, 2011– Where were you when the “big one” hit?  In January 1977, Western New York was a standstill during the infamous blizzard that cinched our reputation as the snow capital of the U.S.

Luckily, the only shovel required for this whiteout is a really big spoon.

Perry’s Ice Cream, Buffalo’s regional ice cream company located in Akron, N.Y., is digging out its blustery flavor to honor of the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Blizzard of ’77.  Zero Visibility, with snowy white coconut ice cream and a flurry of shredded coconut pieces and a hint of rum flavor to warm your bones.

“The flavor was created to celebrate our hometown’s history.  If you lived in the Buffalo area during 1977, you have a story to share with family and friends over a bowl of Zero Visibility,” said Brian Perry, executive vice president and vice chair, Perry’s Ice Cream.  For more on Brian Perry’s blizzard story visit: facebook.com/perrysicecream.

Perry’s first launched Zero Visibility in 1997 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Blizzard of ‘77.  The limited edition flavor is released every five years; scoop up this frozen favorite before it’s too late.  Zero Visibility won’t be seen in freezers again until 2017 for the blizzard’s 40th anniversary!

Zero Visibility is available at retail locations across Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, including TOPS Markets, Wegmans, Wilson Farms, Shurfine Markets and other regional supermarkets.

Finally! I’m so excited that you are producing Zero Visability ice cream again. A few years ago I wrote you to ask if it would be happening and at that time you had no plans to do it. It is my favorite flavor. THANK YOU!

Maybe you can help me. I’ve been trying to find out who made Christmas tree ice cream that was sold in the 70′s & 80′s (maybe earlier) It had an actual green tree throughout the 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream. It’s driving us crazy. thanks

    • Perry's Ice Cream says:

      Doreen,

The flavor you are inquiring about is White Christmas and good news! We still make it, it just does not have the tree in the middle. It will have the same taste and flavor. We hope you can find it and enjoy it during the holidays! Use our WHERE TO BUY section at the top of the page to locate the flavor near you. Additionally, check with your local Wegmans. – Elena

Zero Visibility is my all-time favorite flavor. I didn’t realize it’s only available every 5 years; consequently, I have terrorized the young clerks in Wegmans frozen foods for naught.
My next favorite flavor would have been Butter Almond. I was thrilled to see Perry’s make it and Wegmans stock it. I was not thrilled to discover it is butter pecan ice cream with almonds in it. That’s not butter almond. That’s cheating. I love butter pecan, but when I want butter almond I expect it to be butter almond.
I have never seen, but would love to try, chocolate ice cream with walnuts. Can this be done?
My least favorite ice cream, is that with detritus in it: bits of candy, hunks of cake, flakes of pie crust, or crumbled up cookie pieces. How revolting!
Yours is, however, still the best ice cream on the market.
    Keep up the good work!
