This Perry’s summer was (and still is!!) ) about simply having fun:
- We made great memories.
- We made sure every day of summer is filled with fun things to do and posted an idea a day to our Facebook – 100 Days of Summer.
- We tried a few new recipes.
- We celebrated National Ice Cream Day, although here, at Perry’s, it is pretty much every day.
With Labor Day just ahead – we are not done! Searching for recipes to try this summer we discovered several very talented Western New Yorkers that love to cook (and eat!) and decided to reach out and tap into their creativity and passion for desserts. And so, we introduce to you for the first time – our Inside Scoopers!
The first Inside Scooper you are going to “meet” is Ashley from Wishes and Dishes. Ashley is quite a chef! However if you are not much into recipes, we bet you’ll still be quite entertained reading her posts peppered with a great sense of humor. Ashley’s favorite time of the year is Christmas, which at the moment of this post is 116 days away – very easy to know via the count down clock right at the top of Ashley’s blog! Needless to say, we are quite excited and can’t wait to see what kind of desserts Ashley will create to celebrate – our holiday flavors are a perfect ingredient!
Ashley’s today recipe is all about summer. It will make a perfect dessert for your Labor Day picnic! The recipe is quite special, as it gives you a S’more guarantee – rain or shine, with this recipe you’ll be able to enjoy them! It is also a frozen yogurt alternative to one of the most popular Perry’s ice cream stand flavors, a new one for 2012, PB S’mores.
Frozen S’mores
by Ashley of Wishes and Dishes
Ice cream is one of my favorite foods…..period. Peanut butter is one of my favorite things in ice cream…..period. A few months ago, I discovered my new obsession at a place I love to get ice cream in the summer, Lugia’s. This obsession is otherwise known as Perry’s Peanut Butter Chip Frozen Yogurt. On second thought, I know my hubby is going to want credit for this one as he was the original person to make the ground-breaking discovery and order this little taste of heaven.
Lugia’s serves in my estimate, about 700 different flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt (I could be a little over), which I love. You order a size small ice cream and you practically get an entire bucket of ice cream! Normally you have to stand in line for a while at the outdoor walk-up counter, which is okay, because the large flavor menu board makes hasty decision making pretty much impossible….and we all know I am horrible at making prompt decisions, as previously discussed last week in this post
A couple of months ago, I was grocery shopping and I moseyed on over to the ice cream section (surprising, I know) and found that they now carried the frozen yogurt flavor that I so love! Those of you in New York, Pennsylvania or Ohio should definitely be on the lookout for this frozen yogurt at your local supermarket or ice cream stand. So, naturally, ever since that discovery I don’t think a day has gone by where I didn’t have some sitting in my freezer. If you are lucky enough to have a Wegman’s nearby, there is a good chance they will carry it. That is, of course, as long as you don’t shop at the same Wegman’s that I do, in which case I will have probably cleaned out the entire stock by the time you get there. If you don’t live in the area, just go pick up a 1.5 qt container of your favorite frozen treat to use as a substitute. And remember folks……. frozen yogurt typically has about 1/3 of the amount of fat present in a equal serving of regular ice cream, so you can eat three times more frozen yogurt than you would ice cream and still feel good about yourself
So what’s a girl to do but to get a little creative and make a summery sweet treat with all that frozen yogurt? Meet this frozen s’mores treat. It’s a beautiful thing.
INGREDIENTS:
(Makes 1 frozen sandwich…make as many as you want!)
1 full honey graham cracker
1 tablespoon marshmallow cream/fluff
½ tablespoon mini semi sweet chocolate chips
*2 tablespoons Perry’s Peanut Butter Chip Frozen Yogurt (frozen solid)
*You can use your favorite flavor of ice cream or frozen yogurt!
DIRECTIONS:
- Break one graham cracker in half. Spread one half with 1 tablespoon marshmallow cream and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon mini chocolate chips on top of the cream.
- Top other half with 2 tablespoons frozen yogurt and place marshmallow side in, on top of frozen yogurt, to create a sandwich. Using a dull knife, wipe the sides clean. By hand, place a a good amount of chips on each side.
- Place on a plate and freezer. Freeze until firm, before serving.
If making several at once, keep frozen yogurt or ice cream in freezer and follow step 1 with as many as you desire to make. Next, follow steps 2 and 3.
Place each, unwrapped, on a plate in freezer. Once frozen, wrap each sandwich tightly in plastic wrap and keep stored in freezer.
They’ll keep in freezer for several weeks if wrapped well!
