A Sweet Start for Syracuse Football Season

Perry’s Ice Cream and Syracuse Athletics Introduce ‘CUSE® 44 Premium Ice Cream

Akron, N.Y. – August 25, 2016 – Perry’s Ice Cream, a fourth generation, family owned ice cream company, in partnership with Syracuse Athletics has officially launched their premium ice cream ‘CUSE®44 to celebrate the “Orange Nation” of ‘CUSE® fans.

“We appreciate Perry’s Ice Cream creating ‘CUSE® 44 for our fan base and community,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics, John Wildhack. “Our partnership with Perry’s is a great way to connect Syracuse Athletics and our fans.”

‘CUSE® 44 is salty caramel ice cream with crushed cream filled cookies and orange colored pretzel balls.  The family size (1.5 QT.) is emblazoned with the Syracuse logo, traditional orange palette, and a special “letter to the fans”.

This signature fan-flavor is complete with on-trend salty caramel to celebrate Syracuse’s heritage as “the salt city” and features the number “44” as a nod to “The Legend of #44”, one of the most storied numbers ever associated with a college football program.  Since 1954, 11 players have worn the number and 3 have earned All-America honors.  The three most famous #44s include, Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little.  Ernie Davis was the first African-American to win the Heisman in 1961.

The number 44 represents a tradition of greatness for ‘CUSE®.  As a ‘Made in New York’ product for almost 100 years, we made it our goal to create a flavor with our partners at Syracuse Athletics that not only tastes great but honors the legacy of the number 44.  In our initial discussions for a product name, we thought about describing the flavor with words like “salty” and ‘Cuse”.  We learned from our partners at SU that the number 44 holds great significance.  We decided to combine the best of both worlds and thus ‘CUSE® 44 was born,” said Robert Denning, President and CEO, Perry’s Ice Cream.

Perry’s and Syracuse Athletics have been partners since 2012.  ‘CUSE® 44 is the second Syracuse flavor to be released by Perry’s.  Otto’s Cupcake was introduced in 2012.

Fans will have the chance to sample the flavor during Back to School Weekend at Tops Markets Nottingham Road location in Syracuse on Saturday, August 27 (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sunday, August 28 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) in the store’s frozen section.

In addition, Perry’s and Syracuse Athletics will host a social media contest from August 29 through September 14 to giveaway 10 pairs of VIP tickets to the 2016 Syracuse University Homecoming Game vs. University of South Florida on September 17.  Visit cuse.com for the official rules.

‘CUSE® 44 is available for purchase at Wegmans, Tops, Dash’s, 7-11, and Perry’s Ice Cream scoop shops around town including the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University. To find a location near you, use the Perry’s Flavor Finder via perrysicecream.com.
